Frequently asked questions
Plans, AI models, file formats, workflow — the questions that come up most.
Plans, credits & billing
What are credits and how do they work?
Credits are the currency for every AI operation on LaserTools — image generation, depth-map estimation, mesh generation, and so on. Each operation costs a fixed number of credits. Your plan includes a monthly allowance; you can also buy credit packs at any time.
Do unused credits roll over?
Yes. Unused credits from your monthly allowance roll into the next billing cycle, and credits purchased through credit packs never expire.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes. Cancel from the Billing page. You keep your plan's features until the end of the current billing period.
Is there a free plan?
Yes — the Free plan includes monthly credits, every studio, and PHOTON AI image generation and editing. No credit card required to start.
Can I switch plans without losing credits?
Yes. There is no proration on plan switches — any unused credits roll over to your new plan, so you never lose what you have already paid for.
AI models
What's the difference between PHOTON and WAVELENGTH?
PHOTON v1.1 is our default AI image-generation and editing model — fast, good quality, and a flat per-operation credit cost. WAVELENGTH v1.2 is the highest-fidelity option; it uses dynamic pricing based on output quality and resolution. PHOTON is available on every plan; WAVELENGTH requires a paid plan.
Why does WAVELENGTH have dynamic pricing?
WAVELENGTH's cost scales with the output quality (low / medium / high) and size you choose — generating a small low-quality image is much cheaper than a large high-quality one. The estimated worst-case credits are shown before you submit, and the actual cost is settled against your balance once the job finishes.
What model powers depth-map generation in Embossing Studio?
emBOSS v1.0 reads a single photograph and works out how far every point in it sits from the camera, then writes that distance out as a 16-bit grayscale depth map — brightness stands for height, so a laser or CNC machine can cut the relief straight from it. Sixteen bits gives 65,536 levels, which keeps gradual surfaces smooth instead of banding into visible steps.
Files & outputs
What file formats can I export?
Depending on the studio: PNG (Photo Studio), 16-bit PNG depth maps (Embossing Studio), GLB / OBJ / STL / PLY / DXF (Mesh Studio), and PLY / OBJ point clouds (Crystal Studio). Free 3D converters under /resources/convert handle STL ↔ OBJ, STL ↔ GLB, PLY ↔ PCD, OBJ → STL.
Can I use the outputs commercially?
Yes. Files you produce on LaserTools are yours to use commercially. See the Terms of Service for the precise license language.
Do you support [my laser machine]?
LaserTools is a pre-processor — it produces the file your laser software then engraves. If your laser software accepts PNG, depth-map PNG, PLY, OBJ, STL, GLB, or DXF, LaserTools can hand it a file. Most major laser controllers and CAM tools handle one of these.
Workflow
What's the typical workflow?
Photo Studio → Mesh Studio → Crystal Studio for subsurface crystal engraving. Photo Studio → Embossing Studio for variable-depth relief and CNC work. Each studio passes its output directly to the next.
Do I need to install anything?
No. LaserTools is browser-based — it runs in modern Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox. No downloads, no plugins, no desktop software.
Can I save my work and come back later?
Yes. Projects are auto-saved to your account and reopen from any device with your login.
